Pima Council on Aging
Pima Council on Aging (PCOA) is the designated Area Agency on Aging serving older adults and their families living in Pima County, Arizona. PCOA is a donor-supported non-profit 501(c)(3) organization accessible to any individual or group seeking assistance or sharing our mission.
Volunteers are the backbone of PCOA and essential to our mission. Whatever inspires you, we can help find a cause that lights you up. Many opportunities exist, including the ones listed below:
Ambassadors are information specialists who provide local resources for older adults in a wide range of community based settings throughout Pima County. You choose where you wish to serve or we can refer you to a location. Monthly in-service training and resource materials keep you up to date.
Health Fairs and Special Events
Are you a people person? Here is your opportunity to meet, hand out information and talk with individuals interested in PCOA’s services at events and fairs that happen thoughout the year.
Living Well Programs
If you like to teach encouraging others, consider becoming a Living Well volunteer leader or coach for community-based workshops. Current evidenced-based health programs include, A Matter of Balance, Healthy Living: Managing Ongoing Health Conditions and Healthy Living with Diabetes. Training, mentoring and support are provided. Participants are adults 60+, who are motivated to make realistic lifestyle changes to manage their health conditions, improve balance confidence and remain independent.
Long Term Care Ombudsman Program
Do residents of nursing homes touch your heart? Volunteers are trained and assigned to elder care facilities to advocate for residents of those facilities. Part of the national Long-term Care Ombudsman’s Program and Certified by the State of Arizona LTC Ombudsman Program.
Neighbors Care Alliance (NCA)
Interested in your immediate neighborhood? NEIGHBORS CARE ALLIANCE (NCA) Outreach Coordinators assists neighborhoods and faith-based communities in helping seniors remain independent and in their homes as long as possible through the support of neighbors helping neighbors. We can help you join an active program or take a leadership role and start a new group.
OASIS CATCH Healthy Habits
Do you want to help kids in your community to eat better and exercise more? Consider volunteering for OASIS CATCH Healthy Habits, a summer and after-school program that connects adults age 50+ with kids in grades K-5. Together, they learn about good eating habits and play active games. Your participation will help you and kids stay active, fight obesity, and have fun!
Personal Budgeting Assistance
Is finance your area of interest? Trained volunteers assist low income individuals to balance their bank accounts, prepare a budget and organize bills. Volunteers visit clients in the client’s home once or twice a month for one to two hours to accomplish these tasks. Volunteer liability insurance is provided.
Do you have strong clerical and organizational skills? Perhaps you like numbers, writing stories, or creating presentations. Contact Volunteer Services to make a difference in one of PCOA’s many service areas. Training will be provided.
