Who are hospice volunteers?

Amedisys Hospice volunteers are people from Southern Arizona; men and women, young and old, college students and retirees, from all walks of life. They do share a common bond–an unselfish desire to give of their time to improve the end-of-life experiences of individuals and their loved ones dealing with a life-limiting illness. No medical training or medical background is necessary, nor is any prior experience with hospice.

What do hospice volunteers do?

Our hospice volunteers spend time with patients and their loved ones. They provide caregiver relief, companionship, run errands, and provide supportive services.

Hospice Volunteer Training

Volunteers complete a training program. The training covers various aspects of hospice care including: an exploration of end-of-life issues, the dying process, grief and loss, communication, spirituality, psycho-social issues, symptom control, physical care of the dying, and self-care.
