The SCVHS’s Education Committee needs volunteers to help take our “Museum in Motion” program to all classrooms in the Santa Cruz Valley.
There are many ways you can help:
● Lesson planning and research
● Topics include: railroads, mines, schools, farming, ranching, pioneers, indigenous people, maps and Arizona’s 5 Cs
● Reviewing lesson plans to ensure compliance with State and District standards
● Presentation editing and design
● Google slide experience is helpful
● Posting finished lesson materials to the “BeyondTextbooks” website
● Collection, repair and maintenance of museum kit materials
● Museum kit assembly, content tracking and kit check-out
● Kits include artifacts, books, period clothing, photos, maps, artifacts and manipulatives
● Classroom presenters and assistants
● Experience working with children preferred
● Scheduling, organizing, file sharing and clerical support
● Use of Google Docs, Sheets and Drive
Volunteers who will be assisting with activities taking place on any school campus must be approved by the SCVHS Board and are required to become a registered school district volunteer. This typically involves obtaining a free fingerprint clearance card and submitting the appropriate paperwork.

Prior experience working with children is helpful, but not mandatory. Presentations and supporting activities typically take 30 to 40 minutes per session. Presentation frequency is flexible and depends on how many classrooms SCVHS can commit to supporting.
