Volunteer Opportunities

We really need your help!

Explore our programs that serve children and adults through literacy and the arts. Literacy creates solutions to many of society’s most persistent problems. From reducing unemployment and poverty to increasing economic growth and opportunity, literacy is key to a better future for all of us.

Reading Seed: Our trained Reading Seed coaches work one-to-one with K-2 students who are reading below grade level. Literacy Connects trains coaches and provides professional development opportunities. Coaches receive free books for their students and have full support from the library coordinator and Reading Seed staff. This program is conducted in person during school hours.

Adult Basic Literacy (ABL): Our trained ABL tutors help adult learners with reading, writing, and math in GED prep. These basic literacy skills lead to occupational, educational, and civic success for adult learners. Literacy Connects trains tutors and provides professional development opportunities. This program is offered in person and on Zoom, with both classes and 1:1 tutoring.

English Language Acquisition for Adults (ELAA): Our trained ELAA teachers work in a classroom environment teaching adult immigrants and refugees. Teachers help adult learners achieve basic English language skills that lead to occupational, educational, and civic success. Literacy Connects trains teachers and provides professional development opportunities. This program is offered on Zoom, with in person teaching opportunities coming.

Additional Opportunities: There are many more opportunities to volunteer with Literacy Connects. Help is often needed with special events, book cleaning, minor construction and repairs, neighborhood clean-ups, clerical work and much, much more! Call us today.

All interested volunteers must first attend an Info Session. Go to https://literacyconnects.org/get-involved/attend-an-info-session/ to register.
